Our mission is to be a reliable and continuous resource for information regarding the distinct mental health needs of military service memebers, their loved ones and the communities which support them.
About us
Soldiers and Families Embraced, Inc. (SAFE) is a non-profit, 501c3 organization. We aim to support the mental health needs of our soldiers, their families and the communities who support them. SAFE provides support by offering two types of training workshops; family and provider. Both workshops are unique and can be tailored to fit the specific needs of a group.
Our family workshop:
On the Home Front is an interactive 3 hour workshop to provide research based information on the deployment cycle, common emotions of families and children regarding deployment, coping mechanisms for these emotions, as well as education on military culture and insight into the deployed Soldier's current situation.
Our provider workshop:
This workshop provides providers with knowledge about military culture and how PTSD presents, specifically in Iraq/Afghanistan veterans, and provides effective treatment strategies as well as outlining benefits that may be available to these veterans and how to access them.
At the end of this seminar the Providers will be able to:
- Discuss the prevalence, etiology and clinical presentation of PTSD in this population
- Identify the defining symptoms observed in clients with Traumatic Brain Injury
- Describe how to select and provide effective treatment approaches for PTSD in active duty Service members and veterans returning from Iraq/Afghanistan
- Discuss at least three challenges which may interfere with a treatment plan
- Describe how to assist veteran clients to access and navigate the system of benefits and health care available to them
- Identify at least two ways to manage self care as a mental health professional
